Meet Dr. Anesa Stackhouse

Stackhouse Family Dentistry is proud to be led by Dr. Anesa Stackhouse, a South Carolina native whose passion for dentistry is rooted in science, service, and building meaningful relationships with her patients.

Born and raised in the charming town of Dillon, South Carolina, Dr. Stackhouse developed a strong appreciation for community, education, and helping others from an early age. Growing up in Dillon shaped the values of hard work, connection, and service that continue to influence her both personally and professionally.

Dr. Stackhouse’s love for science began long before her career in dentistry. After graduating from the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, she worked as a chemist for three years. Her experience in the sciences strengthened her appreciation for precision, problem-solving, and the way science can be applied to improve people’s lives. Ultimately, she discovered that dentistry offered the perfect opportunity to combine her love of science with her desire to work directly with people.

While exploring dentistry, Dr. Stackhouse had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Duncan Shirley, whose dedication to his patients and profession helped inspire her decision to pursue a career in dentistry. She went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Following dental school, Dr. Stackhouse completed a Non-Categorical Oral Surgery Internship at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. This advanced training allowed her to further develop her surgical knowledge, clinical judgment, and technical skills. During her time at Meharry, she was honored with the Swiss Army Knife Award, which is presented to the resident in the cohort who demonstrates the strongest surgical skills. This recognition was a meaningful reflection of the dedication she brought to her surgical training.

Throughout her career, Dr. Stackhouse has remained committed to providing thoughtful, comprehensive dental care. Her experiences volunteering at the Miracle Hill Missionary Free Dental Clinic reinforced her belief that dentistry can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. She also had the opportunity to participate in a dental mission trip to Jamaica, where Dr. Stackhouse and her team provided dental care to hundreds of patients. Working with patients in a different setting gave her a deeper appreciation for the importance of access to dental care and the connection between oral health and overall health. The experience reinforced her belief that quality dental care is important for everyone and strengthened her passion for using dentistry as a way to serve others.

Dr. Stackhouse has made Columbia, South Carolina, her home and is excited to serve the community she now calls home. In 2026, she became the owner of Stackhouse Family Dentistry, taking pride in carrying the practice forward while establishing an environment focused on personalized, high-quality dental care.

As a general dentist, Dr. Stackhouse enjoys providing comprehensive care for patients of all ages. She believes that good dentistry begins with listening, education, and understanding each patient’s individual needs. Her goal is to make dental care approachable while helping patients make informed decisions about their oral health.
